Getting started with photovoltaics
More and more companies across industries are adopting sustainable energy solutions to adapt to changing global trends and needs. One of these options is photovoltaics, which is becoming increasingly popular in the business world. But what is photovoltaics and why is it so important to businesses today?
What is photovoltaics?
Photovoltaics is a process in which the sun’s energy is converted directly into electricity. This process is carried out using photovoltaic cells, which are found in solar panels. Photovoltaic cells are designed to absorb the sun’s rays and generate an electric current.
It all starts with photovoltaic panels.
Solar panels collect sunlight during the day and convert it into energy using the photovoltaic effect. Solar panels contain active material, which are silicon cells. These, when exposed to sunlight, create free electrons that flow through an electrical circuit.
How many solar panels you need for your property or building depends on a number of factors:
- the size of the roof on which you want to place the solar panels,
- what % of your energy you want to cover with photovoltaics,
- on the amount of energy you consume.
How does it work?
Photovoltaic panels make use of the photovoltaic effect, which is the basis for the functioning of solar technology. The photovoltaic effect is the process by which light is converted into an electric current in a semiconductor. When light hits a photovoltaic cell, it can release electrons, which can then create a direct electric current. The solar panels are connected to an inverter whose role is to convert the DC current obtained from the sun into AC electricity for use in businesses.
There are many different manufacturers of solar inverters on the market today, and their products differ in quality, price, performance and comfort. In our offer you will find only products proven by customers all over the world. We will be happy to advise you on choosing the right inverter for your home.
Level of solar radiation in Slovakia
Solar radiation is the main source of energy for our Earth. Its power exceeds that of the Earth’s core and plays an important role in triggering volcanic activity and generating geothermal energy at the surface.
The power of PV panels is expressed in Wp (peak power). This is the output of the device under defined conditions at a solar radiation intensity of 1000W/m2 at an outdoor temperature of 25 °C. To achieve a power output of 1 Wp under such conditions, a cell size of approximately 6.7×6.7cm is required.
You can see where Slovakia stands in terms of solar radiation on the map below:
Many companies are opting for photovoltaics as a sustainable energy alternative for many reasons. Not only can photovoltaics significantly reduce a company’s energy costs, but it can also help improve its environmental footprint.
With photovoltaics, new opportunities are opening up for companies that want to be at the forefront of sustainable business. Solar energy is still a very efficient and sustainable solution for businesses of all sizes and sectors.
If you’re thinking about how to make your business more sustainable with lower energy costs, photovoltaics is the way to go.
